Segue abaixo o release do livro:
The term Italo-disco refers to synthesizer-driven electro-pop developed in Italy in the early 1980s. But in reality, the genre encompassed a veritable pop-factory, from glossy pop, to avant-garde electronics, to film scores, disco and even prototechno. Many seminal international acts and bands drew heavily from the genreincluding much of the Stock Aitken and Waterman roster, groups such as the Pet Shop Boys and Erasure, and even entire formative dance music genres, such as early Chicago house and Detroit techno.
Italo-disco traces the genre's transformation from what was a deceptively disparate scene at the time, to one that has now become a global cult phenomenon cherished by thousands. The golden years of the genre1983 and 1984—are explored, revealing the spread of the sound throughout Europe, resulting in notable hits in the UK for acts such as Baltimora, Spagna and Sabrina, the late 80s development of Italo-House, and the recent resurgence of popularity in the genre through groups and
club nights like La Roux and Cocadisco, amongst many others.
Italo-disco looks specifically at the political and social climate of Italy in the late 1970s and early 80s, and how this informed the style of the genre, with comparison to the US and UK pop imports of the time. Aspects such as the burgeoning north Italian fashion scene and growing record industry in the 1980s provide a detailed view of the cultural atmosphere the music was shaped by.
Italo-disco: A Secret History of Modern Pop features profiles on and interviews with many important artists and producers of the era including Fred Ventura, Amin Peck, Savage, Manlio Cangelli, Giorgio Spagna and Alexander Robotnick. It will also include entries on the history and releases of seminal labels such as Disco Magic, Crash, Memory and Sensation, with comprehensive discographies. The book is highly illustrated, with unseen archive and press photography, photographs from the artists own collections, memorabilia, sleeve artwork, and promotional posters.
